Love in Action
Little children,
let’s not love with words or speech but with action and truth. This is how we
will know that we belong to the truth and reassure our hearts in God’s
presence.
– 1 John 3:18-19 –
“I love you.” These three little words can be so powerful.
Hearing it from a parent, friend, or mentor can encourage you and lift up your
mood if you’re having a rough day. Hearing it from a crush or significant other
can bring a smile to your face and makes you feel happy inside. But how would
you feel if someone said “I love you,” but never acted in love towards you? Would you believe them if they never did acts of love or simply ignored you?
As Christians we say we love everyone because Jesus loves
everyone. Jesus did not just say that he loved people, but he demonstrated an
act of love by dying for their sins and rising from the dead for their new
life. Jesus displayed his love for people throughout his life with acts such as
healing, teaching, and relationship building. We as Christians should show our
love to others as well. Simply saying “I love you” or “Jesus loves you” only go
so far without actions. However, this isn’t just something we “have to” do, but
rather we have the great honor and joy of sharing Jesus’s love with other people.
It’s important to remember that doing good deeds does not
make God love us any more or less. That’s part of the love story we’re telling:
God loves us no matter what we do or say! We have the privilege of telling
others about this love. There’s many ways we can show Jesus’s love in the way
we live our lives. We can use our words to encourage someone who is upset or
frustrated. We can use our hands to help someone in need such as at places like
Helping Hands, Patriot Paws, or through mission events at the church. We get
the joy of sharing this great love of Jesus through our words and deeds in our
everyday lives. I encourage you to find ways to share the love of Jesus in your
day to day lives.
