God is Hope

“Help, God—the bottom has fallen out of my life! Master, hear my cry for help! Listen hard! Open your ears! Listen to my cries for mercy. If you, God, kept records on wrongdoings, who would stand a chance? As it turns out, forgiveness is your habit, and that’s why you’re worshiped. I pray to God—my life a prayer— and wait for what he’ll say and do. My life’s on the line before God, my Lord waiting and watching till morning, waiting and watching till morning. O Israel, wait and watch for God with God’s arrival comes love, with God’s arrival comes generous redemption. No doubt about it—he’ll redeem Israel, buy back Israel from captivity to sin."

Is it ever hard to have hope when you are in a hard situation? How does that feel? What about when you are waiting for a big decision in your life? How are the two different?

This passage is very insightful into how God is listening when we are calling out for him. It helps us to understand why we call out to him. This reason is hope. Hope that he will forgive us, and continue to act as we wish he would.

Hope is a funny thing to have and to give to me. It always has seemed to me that it was an easy thing to have and a hard thing to give! I had this idea because I a lot of times found myself waiting to hear something and being so hopeful about it that I couldn't think about anything else, but when it came to giving hope to others, I was worried that I would give them too much hope and they would be let down.

I have since learned that hope is more than a want for something to work out, it is a feeling before you receive any kind of good or bad news. It is a feeling that is given by our God because we call out to him. He gives us a comfort and a hope before we are given a response. I feel that hope is an important character trait because there is always something to be hopeful for!

This week remember to be hopeful for new opportunities and experiences! Remember that God is present in the hopefulness we have and will continue to have, because he is hope. God is hope for the world, and hope for us forever!
